Hmm ... Maybe a little bit of info will do you good:
AOL, Tiscali, Tesco? Internet, BT Yahoo, and NTL/Virgin internets have been tested by myself firsthand. In order of quality, from best to worst, I will explain below the types of service available from these providers (in the UK)
NTL/Virgin - Positives: Great internet with fast response times. NTL/Virgin use the latest fibre obtical networking technology to make sure you get the best out of your connection. Fast ping times, and some unbeatable Cable Broadband speeds are available from NTL/Virgin. Negatives: NTL/Virgin Internet normally comes as a package of TV, Internet, and Telephone. NTL would replace your telephone line at your expense, and you would be limited to them as a Cable Internet user. Switching would be possible, but would cost to have your line replaced again. Cable Internet products generally cost more than the ADSL alternatives, and NTL/Virgin will provide you with a standard Cable Modem. Oh, and there's a one-off setup fee, too.
AOL - Positives: AOL offer one of the most reliable ADSL networks available in the UK. Using ADSL, you are not forced to use the dedicated software to connect to the internet, and are therefore not spammed with all the adverts that are held within the package. AOL offers up to seven different 'screen names' for each of your family members, so that you all have your own personalised area. AOL Broadband comes with a free Netgear (really good) Wireless Router - Great for home networks! Negatives: AOL Broadband is slightly more expensive than other alternatices.
BT Yahoo - Positives: BT internet is slowly becoming one of the most technological ADSL providers available in the UK. The ADSL connection is reliable, and, because your line is centralised around BT, you'll always have someone to complain to when things go wrong. BT Yahoo may provide you with a Wireless 'Home Hub' depending on the package you choose. Negatives: Like NTL/Virgin, most BT Internet packages are linked with a telephone subscription, meaning that you also have to use their telephone service.
Tesco Internet - Positives: It's Tesco? Tesco Internet packages are normally very cheap. Negatives: Your downloads are capped, and you must pay more if you exceed your bandwidth allocation.
And that's all ... Oh wait ... There's one more. But we haven't gone far enough down yet .... Hang on ...
This should do it.
Tiscali Internet: Positives: Cheap Negatives: Cheap. Yes, Tiscali internet is cheap - The hardware they use is cheap. The hardware they supply to you to connect ... Is cheap. Tiscali might give you a Belkin **ROFLLLL** Wireless Router to use if you choose the right package. Here's the step-by-step guide to installing your wireless with this:
1. Burn the Belkin router 2. Buy a Netgear or D-Link Router. 3. Install as described in the Manual (In good english, compared to Belkin/Linksys - again **ROFL**)
Anyways... Back to it.
Choose NTL for Speed, AOL for quality, or BT for Economy.
Btw in all of these cases: Technical Support by telephone or by email/live support is rubbish. Noone the other end knows what they're talking about. Don't bother with them. ESPECIALLY if they try to give you an 09 or 08 number.
